The winter solstice - the shortest day of the year - was celebrated with a giant bonfire and good wishes for the New Year at the Glastonbury Audubon Society Dec 21.
The solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice a year. The ritual of solstice celebration is thousands of years old, said Kasha Breau, a naturalist and teacher who led the event for more than 50 participants.
